Gosh, I apologize for being MIA the last few days but I have been ridiculously busy! I spent the last few days in San Francisco gallivanting around having a great time meeting with one of our advertising partners for work and I’ll tell you what… I LOVE San Fran. Truly an amazing city.
Honestly, if I would have actually moved there with Rubbermaid way back when I was first placed in San Fran I think I may still be there. It was just fabulous. So much to see and do there… so many cute little bars and restaurants to hit up and the people there were great. Not like the Southern hospitality nice but more like minding your own business and just letting everyone do their own thing nice.
So I didn’t get to see the Full House house and I didn’t get the chance to check out the park that they have their family picnic in but the girl that lives there said it is a lie because you can’t drive in that park. So that was a little bit of a let down but other than that I was happy the entire time.
We went and had a fancy lunch where I had a spinach salad with grilled chicken. I didn’t snap a photo because we were all sitting pretty close to each other and you know how I feel about snapping pictures in front of co-workers… we just are not there yet! After the meeting with went for “Walktails” which in California terms is just stopping on the way to your dinner location to get a drink at another bar/restaurant. Since you get to walk everywhere (dream come true- I am just jealous we can’t) it is called a walktail because you are walking to your cocktails… you got the first time didn’t you? Well, you’re welcome for the clarification.
So I had one of my favorites… drum roll please… a lemon drop at Original Joes. Except, it wasn’t actually THE Original Joe’s… it was just a recently opened version of Original Joe’s. Kind of like the Cheers in Boston that isn’t really the real cheers… well the one is but the one is not. In any case it was a great place for a drink and I’ll tell you what.. there is a lot of people in San Fran having a drink around 4pm. Hmmm… I wish I could do that.
After drinks we went to Park Tavern for a delicious dinner! We started out with these brussels sprout chips. Now I typically like most veggies but have had some trouble getting emotionally involved with my sprouts but I’ll tell you what… I was deeply in love with these things! So I came home and googled brussels sprout chips and I came across a recipe on eatreal and I think I will be trying them soon! I think the key is the right amount of salt and pepper on these things… and I am not certain but I think the ones at the restaurant had some garlic too.
Have you ever tried these or have any good sprout recipes I can try?!
Um we also have truffle fries for an app. I had never had truffle fries and well, I found more room in my heart to love something else on the table. OMG. Delicious. Terrible for you I’m sure but hey when in Rome San Fran.
So for dinner, it was a no brainer for me. I opted for the Tuna. This was SOOO fresh and delicious.
It was just as good as it looks (well assume you like tuna). Plus, it was just enough… you know how some restaurant just stuff you to death and you feel terrible when you leave? Not Park Tavern… it was great food, great portions, great atmosphere, and well it was pretty awesome company.
In the morning our flight was leaving until 12ish so we went for a nice walk on the Pier and along the water and got to see some Sea Lions! We were too far for a good pic but these things looks kind of ugly cute right?
Not the run I was hoping for but we still got in a 2 mile walk! But then we headed back to The Marriott and had a great breakfast… Egg White and Veggies with 1 slice of bacon and fruit on the side!
So as you can see above, I don’t really make the healthiest options when I am out and about. I LOVE food so I do like to explore… in moderation of course. Tasting the appetizers not eating the entire thing but when I am at home I try to make healthy choices and I have had quite a few good meals lately!
I am back to loving Tuna Fish. Totally weird that I go through phases like this I know but sometimes a girl just need a tuna fish sandwich (without the bread of course). So for dinner the other night I enjoyed some tuna fish (I make mine with just a little mayo and some salt and pepper), I put it on a bed of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and this day I added a few olives on the side. Oh and tomato soup which I LOVE… I also go through phases with soup.
Hmm… I just realized that maybe I get bored with food sometimes? Interesting.
When I go to my parents I always seem to eat really well.. the other night my mom made these delicious stuffed peppers with some bacon, spinach, and tomato sandwiches (minus the bread of course). This was seriously my ideal meal…. mushrooms, spinach, tomato, and bacon… some of my favorite things! And easy to make… just eat up the sausage/meat on the stove and while that is cooking scoop out the inside of the mushroom then fill the mushroom with the mix (a little bit of cheese goes a long way to making it stick together so no need to over do it) then just pop them in the oven to cook a little until the mushroom gets soft.
The other dish was just some cooked all natural bacon from White Feather Meats with some tasty tomatoes and spinach that you can buy at any grocery store! My mom always buys the slightly spicy bacon which makes it even better in my mind!
Oh and I pretty much always make a bowl of guacamole at my parent’s house (because they always seem to have perfectly wipe avocados). I’ve made guac a few different ways and I’m no professional like Casey but I usually just use the packet of flavor with 2 avocados put in some chili powder and then add some tomatoes if I have them! Nice and easy.. but taste like it took hours!
And sometimes we just do a nice easy dinner with some all natural chicken and some 3 bean salad on the side!
So many delicious adventures in the kitchen!!
In case you need a refresher on what I decided for lent… I am giving up negative talk inspired by Caitlin over at Operational Beautiful! And so far it has been going great… the road to commitment is underway and being built!
What was really nice was that I woke up the other day to Tim participating and supporting me in this journey. This is the post-it note I woke up too..
There is just something wonderful about having the support from your significant other (or a friend or family member). Tim knows that, like many girls, I have struggled with self-esteem, body image, and just not feeling good about myself so it is so nice to have the support coming from him too! It was such a great surprise!!
I haven’t forgotten to make myself feel good too- and really concentrating on the things that matter most which is more about your inner self.
This has been really good for me and I really would encourage every girl to do it. It is just a nice break to think about the things that make you the person you are and the most important part of who you are… the person you are inside!
